Our playgrounds in Gaza were NOT destroyed!

Dear PfPers, Some good news! The two playgrounds that we installed in Gaza, one in Rafah and one in Khan Younis, a few years ago have been spared and they’re getting good use. We added some pictures of the playground in Rafah and expect more pictures from Khan Younis soon. We had been worried that the playgrounds may have been damaged over the four week long Israeli air and land assault that left most of Gaza in rubble. And with everything that Gazans …

Palestinians Will Never Forget, by susan abulhawa

Palestinians Will Never Forget By susan abulhawa How can anyone watching Gaza burn escape the bitter realization that history repeats itself?  Many have compared Israel ’s treatment of Palestinians to Apartheid South Africa .  But not in their cruelest hour did the Apartheid regime wreak such wanton murder and destruction.  Let us stop mincing words.  What is happening to Palestinians now whispers of Warsaw and Lodz . Schools, universities, mosques, police stations, homes, water treatment plants, factories, and anything that supports civil society, including the only mental health clinic in Gaza , have been blown to rubble from planes that rain death from clear skies without any resistance, because Palestinians have no opposing air force.  Nor do they have an army or navy.  No mechanized armor or heavy …

My Annual Olive Oil Party for PfP, by Karen Kovalcik

When I first learned of Playgrounds for Palestine’s incredible mission and gifts to children in need of hope, the obvious reaction was how can I help? After a few conversations, I found out about the wonderful olive oil that comes from this holy land and how the purchase of it brings goodness to so many. I had no idea of the reverence of the olive trees in this region of the world, and the history of these 2000+ year old trees. The privilege of having olive tree in ones’ family and passing them down through centuries of people, kingdoms, and conquests, makes me think of how wise these trees must be. The olive oil we gather from this most holy place, held dear to so many as …

We Did It!

Susie and Ramzy ran and finished the Philadelphia Marathon on November 23rd in freezing cold weather, raising over $12,000 for a playground for Maysoon’s Kids in Silwad. Ramzy’s time was 4:42 hours and Susie’s was 5:19. They wrote an essay about the experience, which can be accessed here some highlights: Ramzy flew in from Seattle on Friday. He stayed at Linda’s house believing he could …

Phoenix Elementary in Gaza

We are excited to announce the launch of an initiative we’ve been working on for a while. PfP established a school in Gaza for grades 1-5. We’re in our third week now of operation and it’s amazing. The school is a mixture of traditional and non-traditional learning. The first few days were focused on getting to know each other, consulting with children about what they want to get out of the school,
